Your instrument’s case is its best friend.
The case protects your instrument from all types of harm but often, we don’t use the case properly.
Here are a few tips to consider that will help keep your instrument in great shape:
Return accessories and mouthpieces to their proper compartments so they don’t rattle against the instrument and cause scratches, dents, and other kinds of damage.
Never store items in the bell of the instrument, including mutes! These items can move unexpectedly and cause dents.
Books and folders should never be put in the case unless there is a specific compartment designed to hold music because that can lead to damage as well.
Always be sure to latch the case when the instrument is in it and if it won’t close easily, check to make sure everything is seated properly rather than forcing it shut. If your latches, hinges, or handles get loose or become damaged, have them repaired immediately so that your instrument stays secure.
Of course sweeping/cleaning out your case once in a while wouldn’t hurt either.
Always return the instrument to its case when it is not being played.
